The Art of Cool Project (AOCP) presents the positive and inspirational sounds of The Tim Smith Band for its next After Hours Concert. This will be the inaugural concert at a new venue, Broad Street Caf?, 1116 Broad Street in Durham on November 16, 2012, at 9:00pm. The Tim Smith band is an energetic, versatile band that enjoys thrilling its audience with a blend of jazz, R&B, funk, rock, and reggae all rolled into one explosive performance. Along with soulful expression, fans are taken by the band?s superb technique and impressive stage presence. The bandleader, Tim Smith, is a dynamic saxophonist, songwriter and vocalist who has performed all over the world, from North Carolina to Russia. He has been a key part of many different bands, touring with Orquesta GarDel, Jazz Squad, The SoulSearchers and Mr. Coffee and the Creamers, to name a few. Smith has also performed live on Conan O?Brian, Regis & Kathy Lee, Sesame Street, and Raleigh, NC?s own Public TV.
After Hours Concert guests are sure to be thoroughly entertained by this funky, bluesy band when it takes the stage. The Tim Smith Band comes armed with a library of original songs full of expression and positive lyrics. The Band reaches its audience through those songs, and also puts a unique spin on cover tunes to keep the crowd engaged. The Tim Smith Band truly has something for every listener.
Dedicated to increasing the visibility of the local vibrant, varied and surprisingly under-appreciated jazz and live music scene, The Art of Cool Project is a unique collaboration between the jazz and art communities to bring both creative mediums to supporters in an intimate concert setting. The live jazz performances showcase and stimulate the forward-focused creative thought that is occurring on the local jazz scene. The Project also has additional goals of solidifying the Triangle as a metropolitan area with a world-class defined jazz culture by bring a Jazz Festival to Durham, as well as recognizing the need to keep jazz as part of America?s fabric by cultivating the genre in future generations. With its second year in existence, expect many exciting things to come from The Art of Cool Project.
